Any Weather Paper's British Army Exercise Kit List 2025

When you’re heading out into the field for an exercise or course as a member of the Army, you have a very long exercise kit list that you need to take with you. Your kit will make all the difference in your performance wherever you are and whatever conditions you face. We’ve put together a short list of some tried and tested essentials to bring with you that will help you prepare better for your training.

Military Boots

Your boots are a massive contributor to your success in the field, and making sure that you’ve got the right pair for you whilst on exercise is crucial. Never underestimate just how much work your boots are doing for you. You’ll need to ensure that your military boots are properly broken in, are comfortable and have several key features, including proper ankle support, waterproofing and penetration resistance.

Waterproof Notebook and Pen

Notes are massively important when you’re out in the field on exercise. Electronic devices rely on batteries, are susceptible to weather and can be unreliable. You will need a safe way to record important information in a quick and convenient way. I have never seen an exercise or course equipment kit list without some sort of waterproof notebook. This is why you should bring a waterproof notebook with you as part of your military stationery and orders kit. They are extremely durable against wear and tear from abrasions, mud, sweat and of course water. Pair them with a proper waterproof pen or pencil and you’ll be able to write without impediment even in a serious downpour without risking the integrity of your notes.

Waterproof Dry Bags

Waterproof drybags, canoe bags and exped bags are incredibly useful when you’re out in the field, which is why we’ve included them in our army exercise kit list. You’re able to store all sorts of important items that you need to keep dry, including spare socks, electronic equipment and other vital items. They’re also phenomenally useful for organisation, allowing you to sort items into small compartments and maintain order within your Bergen. You’ll always be able to find exactly what you need that way.

Notebook Cover

A Cordura notebook cover from Rite in the Rain is the best way to ensure that your waterproof notebook remains fully protected when you’re facing harsh conditions. The nylon-based material is extremely reliable for protecting your notebook against tears and punctures, and also comes with a secure zip fastening and enough room for four pens or pencils on the outside. Its a convenient way for a junior rank to store their waterproof notebooks, slate cards, orders forms and keep both pens and pencils secure.

Field Gloves

A good pair of field gloves will protect you from rough terrain, hostile weather conditions and equipment. They’ll provide you with enhanced grip, warmth and protection for your hands. In dry environments where your skin will quickly crack, they’ll keep your hands protected from any pollutants or POL. Keep an eye out for a pair with reinforced palms and touchscreen compatibility if you expect to be using devices. Remember not to cut the fingers off - they’re there for a reason, and you’ll lose a lot of benefit if you do.
